Good to know

What is beta titanium?

A titanium alloy that flexes and springs back instead of bending. It is used for temples and bridges because those are the parts that get pushed, sat on and twisted.

Is titanium worth the extra cost over metal or acetate?

For all day wear, sensitive skin, or a frame you want to last years, yes. For an occasional sunglass, a good acetate or steel frame does the job. Our article on titanium sets out when it does and does not matter.

Do titanium glasses cause skin allergies?

Titanium is hypoallergenic and is the standard choice for anyone who reacts to nickel. Check the temple tips, which are usually acetate or silicone, if you have a specific sensitivity.

Can titanium frames be adjusted?

Yes. An optician can adjust the nose pads and temples. Beta titanium tolerates adjustment well because it flexes rather than snaps.
