Frequently asked questions
Why does altitude matter for sunglasses?
Light intensity rises the higher you go, and snow or pale rock reflects it back up at your face. Side coverage matters more on a mountain than it does in town.
Are polarized lenses right for hiking?
Usually yes, because they cut glare off wet rock and water. The exception is anyone reading a phone screen often, since polarized lenses can darken some screens at certain angles.
What should I look for in the fit?
Arms that hold when you look down at your feet, which is most of a descent, and a bridge that carries the frame rather than letting it slide once you warm up.
Do I need a wraparound?
Only in wind, snow or dust. For wooded and lowland walking a standard frame is more comfortable over several hours.
