Frequently asked questions

What is acetate, and is it just plastic?
Acetate is a cellulose based plastic made in sheets, then cut and polished. Injection moulded plastic is poured into a mould. The difference shows in depth of colour and in how the frame ages.
Can acetate frames be adjusted?
Yes. An optician warms the frame and reshapes the arms and bridge. Cold acetate does not bend, so do not force it at home.
Does acetate warp in heat?
It can soften if left somewhere very hot, such as a car dashboard in summer. Store the frame in its case and it holds shape for years.
Is acetate heavier than metal?
Usually a little, because the front is thicker. Most people notice bridge fit long before they notice weight.
